Inner Monologue Exercise
What is an inner monologue?
The thoughts going through a character's mind.
- Read a monologue from your allocated script, preferably one delivered by your character.
- Once you have read the monologue through a number of times and feel comfortable with it, please record yourself rehearsing this monologue once.
- After you have created this initial recording, spend time individually working out the inner monologue of your character. Remember that the inner monologue reflects the character's real thoughts so is often different from what is spoken.
- Once you have finished your inner monologue, please ensure that you record it in your journal. (You can audio record or type it.)
- Record yourself rehearsing your monologue again.
- Watch both performances of your rehearsal of your character's monologue (before and after the creation of the inner monologue.) Compare and contrast the performances.
